Baseball's grind is different from football's. There is no single weekly lineup lock; there are lineups most days, a waiver wire that turns over constantly, and innings or games-played caps that make every start a small budget decision.

The recurring question is not "is this player good" but "is this start worth it for my team, this week, given where my ratios sit". A streamer with a favourable park and matchup is a fine play if you have ERA headroom and a terrible one if you are clinging to a ratio lead.

Two-start weeks and the ratio trap

A two-start pitcher is the clearest example of why context beats rankings. Two starts is more counting stats, which is good for wins, strikeouts and quality starts. It is also twice the exposure for ERA and WHIP, which is bad if the matchups are rough or the park is hitter-friendly.

Whether you take it depends on your standing in those categories right now, which is something a national two-start list cannot know and your own league can.

• Is this two-start week worth the ERA and WHIP risk
• Which categories am I actually losing, and who on waivers fixes them
• Is this trade good for my build, or does it just move counting stats around
• Where does my roster rank in the league on strength rather than record
