Why basketball is the harder problem

Football gives you a week to make one set of decisions. Basketball gives you most nights, and the inputs change every morning: who is on a back-to-back, who got ruled out at shootaround, whose minutes just tripled because the starter is out.

Category leagues make it harder still. In a nine-category league a high-volume scorer who shoots 41 percent from the field can actively lose you a week, while a low-usage big who blocks two a night wins you one. A player's value is not a single number, it is a vector, and it depends on what your team is already punting. Points leagues flatten all of that, which is why advice written for one format misleads in the other.
